Schweitzer plans to open for the 2026-27 season on Nov. 27, conditions permitting. The resort's biggest construction project, the 1,400-space Creek Village parking lot with its new road to the Roundabout, will not be part of this winter. Schweitzer's own target for it is now the 2027/28 season. Most day skiers will arrive this winter the same way they did last winter, through the Red Barn. That is also where Schweitzer is putting its newest addition.
The rest of this winter's changes make more sense once you know that.
The Lot That Might Have Opened This Winter
In June, the Bonner County Daily Bee reported that the Creek Village lot and access road, which broke ground in spring 2022, could be ready for limited passenger vehicle use by winter 2026 if the weather allowed. The same story said the finished lot would double Schweitzer's parking capacity.
Seven weeks later the resort set a later date. In a July 30 construction update, Team Schweitzer said the goal is to have the road and lot "paved and ready for use by the 2027/28 winter season." The update said opening parts of the lot sooner had been explored, but weather, materials and budget all affect the timeline. The same post described haul trucks and excavators moving 3,000 to 3,700 cubic yards of dirt on a typical day, about the volume of an Olympic swimming pool.
The size of the job explains the wait. The resort's post quotes Tom Trulock from Schweitzer's 2022 master plan update: "This will be the largest road and utility project in Schweitzer's history. Most people don't realize it's more than just a road and a parking lot. We have to plan for Schweitzer's future sewer, water, and power needs for the next 20 years and beyond."
By the Sept. 9 update, the old bridge over Schweitzer Creek had been taken out. Crews from Big Sky had finished foundation compaction and testing and started pouring concrete and bolting together the steel arch sections of the new bridge. Next on the list were the Vista wall at the bridge, slope grading and topsoil, and the first trenching for dry utilities. The resort's Sept. 24 winter announcement says work on Creek Village continues this winter. It also says later phases will add dining and ticketing to what will eventually become a second base area.
The Creekside Quad and the skier bridge in that area are not new this year. Schweitzer says both opened in December 2023.
So the Schwagon Moved Down the Hill
The Schwagon is Schweitzer's first food truck. It started this summer serving tacos and drinks in the Village. For its first ski season it is moving to the Red Barn parking lot, which the resort calls its primary park-and-ride. The winter menu is hot breakfast, including breakfast burritos and coffee, for people before they head up the mountain.
The Red Barn sits at the bottom of the mountain, where North Boyer Road meets Schweitzer Mountain Road. Last winter, a free shuttle run by SPOT connected it to the Village. The posted day schedule has buses every 30 minutes. The first bus up leaves the Red Barn at 6:30 a.m., the last one up leaves at 5 p.m., and the last one down leaves the Village at 5:30 p.m. On Twilight Skiing nights, service runs hourly until a last trip down at 8:30 p.m.
Those times appear on a page that still carries 2025/2026 headings, and the 2026/27 Twilight dates are listed as still to come. Treat them as last season's pattern until the resort confirms this year's. Schweitzer also says weather, road conditions and traffic can throw the timetable off.
What's Still Unconfirmed for Getting Up the Mountain
The most uncertain arrival question this fall concerns homes above the Roundabout. The Selkirk Recreation District shuttle has served residences above the Fire Station Roundabout on peak weekends and selected holidays. Schweitzer's shuttle page lists its 2026/27 information as "coming soon." After SRD canceled its summer service, the Daily Bee reported that Schweitzer ran $10 Red Barn-to-Village shuttles on summer Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. That fare applied to summer only and says nothing about winter pricing.
Here is what was confirmed last winter and where each item stands now:
| Item | Winter 2025/26 setup | 2026/27 status |
|---|---|---|
| Red Barn to Village shuttle | Free, operated by SPOT, every 30 minutes | Not yet reconfirmed |
| Lakeview lot | Free weekdays, $25 on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and holidays | Not yet reconfirmed |
| Gateway, Fall Line, Roundabout lots | Free | Not yet reconfirmed |
| SRD residential shuttle | Peak weekends and selected holidays | "Coming soon" |
| Creek Village lot | Under construction | Goal is 2027/28 |
Under last winter's rules, the Fall Line shuttle ran every 30 minutes only after Lakeview and Gateway filled. The Roundabout overflow lot opened only when every other lot was full. Schweitzer handles its on-mountain lots and routes. Schweitzer Mountain Road itself is maintained by the Independent Highway District.
The New Things Are at the Lodges
The Sept. 24 announcement lists no new lift and no new terrain for 2026-27. Every addition fits inside buildings and lift lines that already exist:
- Lakeview Lodge is getting a candy and ice cream shop with classic candy, souvenirs and afternoon treats, a short walk from the slopes.
- Sky House turns 10 this winter. The summit lodge at the top of the Great Escape Quad houses the quick-service Red Hawk Café and The Nest, a sit-down restaurant. Non-skiers can buy scenic foot passenger tickets to ride up.
- Learn to Ski in 3 costs $425 for three group lessons with lift access, instruction and rentals, for ages 13 and up. People who finish all three earn a free Grad Pass good from March through Closing Day.
- Women's Wednesdays is a six-week program, 9 a.m. to noon, for $450 per person and all ability levels. Participants get food and drink discounts at Sky House afterward.
- Group bookings now include Private Night Skiing on Basin Express terrain, a six-course Crow's Bench Cellar Dinner with wines picked by the on-mountain sommelier, and the Rowdy Grouse Elopement Package for up to 10 guests, Monday through Thursday.
Learn to Ski in 3 is the one that matters for owners with houseguests. Someone who spends three days learning over the holidays leaves with a pass for the rest of spring.
The November Dates Before Opening Day
The fall calendar gives the best chances to ask about the Red Barn, SRD and Creek Village questions before the season starts.
- Nov. 7, 7 p.m. Warren Miller's Days Off shows at the Panida Theater in Sandpoint, presented by Mountain Fever Productions.
- Nov. 12, 5 to 6 p.m. State of Schweitzer is a free community presentation at the Heartwood Center. Doors open at 4 p.m., and Schweitzer's leadership team will give season updates and answer questions. It is the most direct place to ask about the shuttle schedule and the lot.
- Nov. 13, noon to 7 p.m. Consignment drop-off for the SARS Ski Swap at the Bonner County Fairgrounds.
- Nov. 14, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The SARS Ski Swap, run by the Schweitzer Alpine Racing School, at the fairgrounds. Admission is $5 per person or $10 per family. Sold and unsold items are picked up from 5 to 6 p.m.
- Nov. 15 The Schweitzer season pass sale ends. The $249 3-Pack stays on sale only while its limited supply lasts. Adult passes currently start at $1,139 for Unlimited and $999 for Sunday through Friday.
- Nov. 27 Tentative opening day. The resort's event page says more details are coming.
Ikon's lower 2026-27 pricing ended Oct. 8. Adult Ikon prices now start at $1,529 for the full pass, $1,099 for the Base Pass and $369 for the Session Pass. With Ikon's early pricing over, the Nov. 15 Schweitzer pass deadline is the next one on the calendar.
When the lifts start turning, Creek Village construction will be continuing, and the Schwagon will be serving breakfast burritos at the Red Barn.
